News

December 2020

The Maine Women’s magazine published an article Suanne wrote titled With These Hands – The Women Makers of Spar Cove about the eight women (including myself) talented artists that live on this beautiful Freeport, Maine peninsula.

October 1 - 3, 2021

During this year’s Freeport’s 2021 Fall Festival,  Suanne will serve as a guest artist for one of the children's events. Participants will use carved printmaking blocks created by Suanne to make gel prints. The blocks include a seal, a snowy egret, a lobster (of course), and a SURPRISE. Stay tuned for pictures!

Now through October 17, 2021

Visit the Gallery at Meetinghouse Arts to view some of Suanne's most recent creations alongside those of many other local artists, at the Color Of Light. Suanne is showing a variety of original prints and cards - all available for purchase.

About

ABOUT SUANNE

If I were to sum up in one word as to who I am and what I love to do it would be that I am a “Maker”. I am happiest when I am creating. It could be an encaustic collage, a print, an artist book, an appealing meal, or designing something in one of my gardens.

I enjoyed making things as a child, but my love for creating really caught fire while working with Maine Crafts Association. Initially, I served as an organization consultant and later as Interim Executive Director. As I learned the breadth of possibilities and witnessed firsthand the beautiful items people created, my desire to learn and expand my skills took off.

Since that time, I have taken workshops in book arts, encaustic, fiber, mixed media, and printmaking at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, MECCA, USM, SMCC, and others. Currently, I am part of two inspiring art groups committed to supporting and critiquing one another’s work. I enjoy volunteer work as an Advisory Board member with the Maine Crafts Association, a member of the Meetinghouse Arts Program Committee operated by the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport, and beginning this Fall, a studio monitor at Artascope.

My work is influenced by what I’m seeing/feeling/experiencing in the world. While much of my art is politically oriented, I enjoy making pieces that I feel are just plain beautiful. Nature plays a major role in what I create. I enjoy teaching adults so stay tuned to the various classes I’ll be offering re: artist bookmaking as well as printmaking.

I hope you enjoy perusing my creations, and perhaps along the way, you’ll find a special piece you feel you need to have or a perfect gift for a loved one.

Thank you for coming to my website and looking around! I appreciate it!
